Expanded from a short $500 film to a sci-fi feature that will be hitting theaters on December 1, writer-director Brock Heasley’s “The Shift” offers a vision of redemption with the message that we are more than the worst things we have done.
A thriller in which the protagonist, Kevin Garner (Kristoffer Polaha) wakes up from a traffic accident to find himself stranded in an alternate, dystopian world, the film draws upon the Book of Job to tell a parallel story in which Kevin’s faith is being tested — first by the loss of his wealth, his son, and his wife, then by a mysterious stranger known as The Benefactor (Neal McDonough). Referring to himself as Chaos, The Benefactor offers wealth and power if only Kevin will join him as a “Shifter” with the ability to move through the multiverse where other Kevins and other versions of his wife, Molly (Liz Tabish), exist.
